The panorama opens with the Officers' Mess building in the Ebrington Barracks site. The Ilex Urban Regeneration Company hopes that this building will be taken up by a developer who wants to open a luxury "boutique hotel".

As an officers mess the building has bars, function rooms and kitchens on a scale suited to a "boutique" hotel. The building is surrounded by mature trees and in spring - bluebells.

The Officers' mess looks out towards the planned icon for panorama of Ebrington Barracks Ebrington: Piazza  icon for panorama of Ebrington Barracks : Parade Ground --> Piazza and behind it is the planned icon for panorama of Ebrington Barracks Ebrington: Residential  icon for panorama of Ebrington Barracks: Residential Zone area. When the panorama rotates it ends passing the area to be known as Cunningham Square where some day soon there may be a bistro or gastro-pub.

...

The Ebrington Barracks site consists of twenty six acres of land that was a military installation for more than 150 years. The underlying hill was used to bombard the city of Derry during the siege in the seventeenth century. The site includes an historic star-fort and almost twenty listed historic buildings. The Ilex Urban Regeneration Company is responsible for the redevelopment of the area. Ilex was set up in 2003 by the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM) and the Department for Social Development in Northern Ireland (DSD) to plan, develop and sustain the economic, physical and social regeneration of the Derry City Council area.

On the VR image clicking the small house icon at the bottom left will reveal (or hide) the "hot-spot" areas that lead to other VRs of the barracks area.
